Rebranding Nourish Nova Scotia: A Vibrant New Identity to Inspire Youth in Food System Change

In Nova Scotia, young people are key to transforming food systems, yet many youth do not have opportunities to learn about where their food comes from, how it's grown, and the impact it has on their communities. Through hands-on learning and community partnerships, Nourish Nova Scotia inspires and equips the next generation to drive meaningful change in their communities and become leaders in shaping a healthier, more sustainable future.

CASE STUDY

As Nourish Nova Scotia continued to grow, it recognized the need for a brand that would capture the energy, creativity, and hope that young people bring to food system transformation. The Nourish Nova Scotia team approached LeBlanc (& co.) Communications to create a vibrant new identity that would resonate with youth, reflect their values, and make food system education feel fresh, engaging, and fun.

Nourish Nova Scotia needed a new brand identity that would speak directly to both young people and educators, needing to capture the dynamic, hands-on approach that defines Nourish Nova Scotia’s work. To address this, we led them through a rebrand focused on creating a bold, vibrant identity that would excite and inspire youth, while still being professional enough to engage educators, community partners, and donors.

While acknowledging that the existing Nourish brand needed to be refreshed and modernized, the client also wanted to honour the organization’s history. We accomplished this by refining their existing logo concept – a “fork flower” icon that represented both food and nature – to modernize and expand the visual brand to better represent the organization’s target audience and future goals.

We developed a colour palette that was vibrant and lively — colours that evoke freshness, vitality, and connection to nature. These colours are not only visually appealing but also reinforce the organization’s commitment to sustainability and local food systems.

LeBlanc (& co.) helped Nourish Nova Scotia develop a Communications Strategy, Message Guide, and a complete visual rebrand. Our focus was on crafting a visual identity that was youthful, dynamic, and easily recognizable — one that would appeal to children and teens while reflecting the organization’s commitment to sustainability, learning, and community-driven change.

Before diving into the design, we worked closely with the Nourish Nova Scotia team to develop a comprehensive Communications Strategy and refreshed Message Guide. This strategy clarified the organization’s goals, pinpointed target audiences, and helped shape the core messages that would speak to young people, educators, and community stakeholders. The strategy also identified the importance of using vibrant, playful visuals to appeal to youth while keeping a sense of professionalism for broader audiences.
